About

Joseph Mornin

I’m an activist, technologist, and student at Berkeley Law School. I founded Nicejot, a tool to organize and share ideas and notes.

Some of my interests include:

  • Law and technology—especially privacy, security, freedom of expression, and intellectual property
  • Digital culture—how technology influences behavior, brains, and creativity
  • Civic activism—how to fix our broken government
  • Social entrepreneurship—solving problems creatively and sustainably
  • Web development—building neat stuff on the Internet

Most recently, I worked as a Research Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. I’ve worked as the Online Director for United Republic and Rootstrikers, which aim to fight the corrupting influence of money in politics. In the summer of 2012, I was a fellow at Public.Resource.Org, where I worked to make government data more transparent and accessible. Previously, I led the online organizing campaign for the Picken Plan alternative energy campaign. I’ve worked on several political campaigns. In 2008, I built a Facebook app to expand Washington State’s online voter registration system, and I successfully introduced an online voter registration system in Oregon the following year.

I have a BA in English from Reed. I live in Berkeley, CA.
